Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually unveiled the temporary campus of Indian Institute of Management Guwahati and inaugurated a high-tech National Data Centre aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure across the Northeast.
The new IIM in Guwahati, approved by the Centre last year, is expected to boost higher and management education in the region. It is the second IIM in the Northeast after Indian Institute of Management Shillong and the 22nd such institute in the country.
Modi also inaugurated the National Data Centre (NDC) for the northeastern region at Amingaon in Assam’s Kamrup district. The facility, launched virtually from Lachit Ghat, has a sanctioned power load of 8.5 MW and an average rack capacity of 10 kW per rack. Officials said the state-of-the-art centre will host mission-critical applications of various government departments and serve as a disaster recovery hub for other NDCs.
In addition, the Prime Minister flagged off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme to promote sustainable urban transport. Of the total fleet, 100 buses have been allocated to Guwahati, 50 each to Nagpur and Bhavnagar, and 25 to Chandigarh.
The initiatives are aimed at enhancing educational opportunities, strengthening digital resilience and expanding green mobility infrastructure across multiple regions of the country.
