Long Train Delays Leave Passengers Stranded in Extreme Heat on Jalandhar-Delhi Route

Jalandhar: Hundreds of rail passengers faced prolonged waiting times at Jalandhar railway station on Tuesday as several trains operating on the Delhi-Jalandhar corridor were delayed, cancelled or diverted, adding to the inconvenience during the peak summer travel season.

With schools closed for vacations and wedding-related travel at its highest, railway stations have been witnessing heavy footfall. However, unexpected delays have left travelers struggling in sweltering temperatures, particularly families with children and elderly passengers.

Among the worst affected was the Amritsar-Delhi Intercity Express (14680), which reached Jalandhar nearly seven hours behind schedule. Scheduled to arrive in the early morning, the train eventually entered the station in the afternoon, forcing passengers to spend several hours waiting under intense heat and humid conditions.

The delay sparked frustration among commuters, many of whom complained about the lack of adequate facilities to cope with the soaring temperatures. Several passengers said prolonged waits on crowded platforms became physically exhausting, especially for senior citizens and young children.

Travelers urged railway authorities to strengthen summer arrangements by ensuring better scheduling and providing additional amenities such as shaded waiting areas, drinking water facilities and timely updates regarding train movements.

Passengers also expressed concern that repeated disruptions during one of the busiest travel periods of the year are creating avoidable hardships. They said better planning and improved operational management could significantly reduce inconvenience for thousands of people relying on rail transport.

As demand for train travel continues to remain high, commuters hope railway officials will take corrective measures to improve punctuality and passenger services during the ongoing holiday and wedding season.
