Lok Sabha Passes Manipur Appropriation Bill Amid Opposition Uproar

New Delhi — The Lok Sabha on Thursday passed the Manipur Appropriation Bill, 2025, amid loud protests by opposition MPs who continued to raise slogans over the alleged revision of Bihar’s electoral rolls.

Despite the uproar, the bill was passed through a voice vote, with no discussion taking place due to the continuous disruption. Soon after the passage, the House was adjourned for the day.

The bill allows the payment and appropriation of specific funds from the Consolidated Fund of the State of Manipur for the financial year 2025-26. It is intended to ensure that administrative services in the state — currently under President’s rule — continue to receive financial backing.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman strongly criticized the opposition’s conduct. “They speak about Manipur repeatedly but refuse to let funds be approved for the state,” she remarked, calling out the contradiction in their stance.

The opposition’s protest, however, remained focused on Bihar, where they have alleged irregularities in the revision of the state’s voter rolls.
