New Delhi: The government of India has firmly rejected speculation about a possible nationwide lockdown, urging citizens to remain calm and not fall for misinformation circulating on social media.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri clarified that there is no proposal under consideration to impose any form of lockdown, despite concerns arising from ongoing global developments affecting energy and supply chains.

In a public statement, Puri emphasised that the situation is being monitored closely, particularly with regard to fuel availability, essential commodities, and logistical networks. He assured that the government is taking all necessary steps to maintain uninterrupted supplies across the country.

Highlighting preparedness, Puri said that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, authorities are actively working to address emerging challenges in a coordinated and timely manner. He stressed that India has successfully handled similar uncertainties in the past and remains capable of managing the current situation.

The minister also warned against the spread of rumours, calling such actions irresponsible and potentially harmful, especially during sensitive times. He appealed to the public to rely only on official sources for information and avoid panic.

Officials reiterated that there is no cause for alarm and that essential services, including fuel and supply chains, continue to function normally across the country.
