India-Bound LPG Vessel Safely Navigates Strait of Hormuz Amid Regional Tensions

Tehran: An India-bound LPG carrier, MV Sunshine, is currently making its way through the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz with full logistical and security support from Indian authorities, sources confirmed on Thursday.

Officials said the vessel is the 15th liquefied petroleum gas tanker destined for India to safely transit from the Persian Gulf despite heightened uncertainty in the region. Multiple agencies, including the Indian Navy, are closely coordinating to ensure the ship’s secure passage as it continues its journey toward Indian shores.

The successful movement of the tanker comes amid continuing concerns over stability in West Asia, where maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains under global scrutiny due to geopolitical tensions.

Meanwhile, Iran has indicated optimism about improved stability in the waterway if diplomatic efforts lead to peace in the region. Speaking during an interaction in New Delhi, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said the security situation around the Strait would normalise once tensions ease.

He stated that peace would bring greater transparency and safer navigation, while reiterating that Iran intends to remain within the framework of international law.

Gharibabadi also criticised Washington’s approach, suggesting the United States had not demonstrated serious intent toward constructive diplomacy in recent engagements.

During discussions held ahead of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting in the capital, the Iranian envoy welcomed any peace-building initiative from India, praising New Delhi’s balanced and neutral diplomatic posture.

He emphasised the long-standing cultural and historical ties between India and Iran, describing the relationship as one built on shared civilisational values and strong people-to-people connections.

The remarks reflect Tehran’s willingness to support diplomatic outreach from New Delhi as efforts continue to prevent further instability in one of the world’s most critical energy transit corridors.
