Mohali: Punjab Police has claimed a major success in its ongoing crackdown on terror activities after arresting two suspected operatives linked to a foreign-based terrorist network and recovering an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from Mohali.

The operation was carried out by the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in SAS Nagar following intelligence inputs about suspicious activities and a possible threat to vital installations in the region. Officials said the recovery of the explosive device prevented what could have been a serious security incident.

According to police sources, the two accused were allegedly working in coordination with an overseas handler and were part of a larger conspiracy aimed at disrupting peace and creating panic. The exact targets have not been disclosed, but investigators indicated that important public infrastructure was believed to be under threat.

Security agencies have launched an extensive probe to identify other members of the network and trace the origins of the explosive material. Investigators are also examining communication records, financial transactions and potential links with foreign-based elements suspected of directing the operation.

The arrests are being viewed as a significant development in efforts to counter cross-border terror networks that continue to attempt to establish local support structures within the state. Officials said intelligence gathering and surveillance played a crucial role in the success of the operation.

Police have not ruled out additional arrests as the investigation progresses. Teams are working to uncover the full chain of command, including recruiters, facilitators and logistical support providers connected to the alleged plot.

Punjab Police reiterated that it remains vigilant against threats to public safety and is committed to taking strict action against individuals involved in terrorism, organised crime and activities aimed at disturbing communal harmony and law and order in the state.
