New Delhi: In a proud moment for the nation, the Indian Air Force has recognised the courage and leadership of its personnel involved in Operation Sindoor, a decisive mission that struck deep into hostile territory.

Nine IAF officers — including fighter pilots who carried out precision strikes on terrorist group headquarters in Muridke and Bahawalpur, as well as key Pakistan military installations — have been conferred the Vir Chakra, the country’s third-highest wartime gallantry award. These missions not only dismantled high-value enemy assets but also showcased India’s air combat superiority. During the operation, IAF pilots successfully brought down at least six Pakistani aircraft, marking a significant tactical win.

In parallel, four senior officers have been awarded the Sarvottam Yudha Seva Medal for their exceptional command and operational planning during the mission. Among them are Vice Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Narnadeshwar Tiwari, Western Air Commander Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra, and Director General of Air Operations Air Marshal Awadhesh Bharti. Their strategic oversight ensured seamless coordination and precision execution across multiple fronts.

Likewise, 13 Indian Air Force officers awarded the distinguished Yudh Sewa Medal for playing an important role in executing attacks and defence own air space. The officers include Air Vice Marshal Joseph Suares, AVM Prajual Singh and Air Commodore Ashok Raj Thakur.

Defence officials described Operation Sindoor as a textbook example of high-risk, high-reward air warfare, combining meticulous planning with fearless execution. These honours stand as a testament to the Indian Air Force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security and neutralising threats before they escalate.
