Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is likely to witness widespread rainfall over the coming days as weather systems become increasingly active ahead of the southwest monsoon’s arrival. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain across several parts of the state until June 28, bringing relief from rising temperatures and creating pleasant conditions in many hill destinations.
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and spells of heavy rain through the middle of the week. Residents and tourists have been advised to remain cautious, particularly in vulnerable hilly regions where adverse weather can trigger landslides, falling rocks and traffic disruptions.
Over the past 24 hours, changing weather conditions were witnessed across the state. Higher reaches of Lahaul-Spiti received fresh snowfall, while several lower and mid-hill areas recorded rainfall. The precipitation, combined with dense cloud cover, led to a notable decline in temperatures across Himachal Pradesh.
Meteorological data showed a sharp fall in daytime temperatures, with many locations recording values well below seasonal averages. Keylong witnessed one of the steepest drops, while temperatures in Shimla, Mandi, Kalpa, Sundernagar and Narkanda also declined significantly, contributing to cooler and more comfortable weather conditions.
The refreshing weather has enhanced the appeal of popular tourist destinations. Visitors arriving in Shimla, Manali, Kufri and Narkanda have been greeted by mist-covered hills, cool breezes and occasional showers, creating ideal conditions for sightseeing and outdoor activities.
Experts believe the ongoing weather activity is an indication of strengthening monsoon conditions over the western Himalayas. While the rainfall is expected to benefit water sources and agriculture, authorities are urging people to stay updated on weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
According to forecasts, intermittent rain, thunderstorms and cloudy conditions are expected to persist across much of the state throughout the week. The continued spell of wet weather is likely to keep temperatures under control and provide further respite from summer heat as Himachal Pradesh moves closer to the onset of the monsoon season.
