Uttarakhand: Preparations for the upcoming pilgrimage season at Shri Hemkund Sahib have moved a step forward, with an Indian Army team successfully reaching the shrine complex and beginning on-site arrangements.

Personnel from the Indian Army’s 418 Independent Field Company, operating under the 9 Mountain Brigade, arrived at the high-altitude gurudwara along with sevadars from the Shri Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara Management Trust. After offering prayers, the team formally opened the gates of the shrine premises, marking a key milestone in the annual preparations.

With access now restored, the team will remain stationed at the site to continue essential work. In previous days, members had been commuting back to Ghangaria due to limited access, but they can now stay at the shrine itself to expedite arrangements.

The revered shrine is set to open its doors to devotees on May 23, 2026, while the first group of pilgrims is scheduled to begin their journey from Rishikesh on May 20.

Authorities and volunteers are working to ensure all necessary facilities are in place ahead of the yatra, which attracts thousands of devotees each year to the Himalayan pilgrimage site.
