Ludhiana: A new chapter in Punjab’s aviation journey began on Friday morning when the first commercial flight from Delhi landed at Halwara Airport, bringing cheers and celebration across the region.
The inaugural Air India aircraft touched down at 7:05 am, marking the official beginning of air operations at the much-awaited airport near Ludhiana.
The arrival turned into a festive occasion, with the terminal buzzing with Punjabi music, cultural performances and enthusiastic crowds gathered to witness the milestone moment.
Traditional Giddha performances welcomed arriving passengers, while students performed energetic Bhangra routines, filling the airport with celebration and local cultural pride.
Residents, airport staff and visitors described the landing as a major breakthrough for regional transport infrastructure, raising hopes of stronger connectivity for central Punjab.
Adding to the excitement, local political leader Ravneet Singh Bittu joined students during the celebrations, dancing to Punjabi beats and appreciating their participation in the event.
Speaking during the programme, he said the launch would significantly improve travel convenience for people across Ludhiana and nearby districts while opening new opportunities for business and economic growth.
He expressed confidence that regular flight operations would soon expand, making Halwara an important aviation hub for the state.
The airport’s operational launch is expected to reduce travel dependence on Chandigarh and Amritsar airports, offering faster access for domestic passengers and strengthening Punjab’s connection with major metropolitan centres.
