Bijnor: A tragic road accident claimed the lives of four people, including a senior Islamic scholar, after their car collided with a dumper in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district, police officials said on Monday.

The crash occurred around 11.30 pm on Sunday on the Haridwar road near Jalpur village, within the jurisdiction of the Nangal police station. According to Najibabad Circle Officer Nitesh Pratap Singh, the car struck the heavy vehicle from behind while both were travelling along the same stretch of road.

The impact was severe, leaving the car extensively damaged. Rescue efforts were hampered by the condition of the vehicle, and police personnel had to cut open the doors to recover the occupants, the officer said.

All four passengers were declared dead at the scene. They were identified as Qari Iqbal, 75, Ashfaq, 65, Ehtesham, 25, and Salauddin, 26, all residents of nearby localities.

Preliminary information suggests that Qari Iqbal had been returning from a madrassa programme where he had delivered a religious sermon. The other three men had reportedly offered to drop him home.

Police have initiated further inquiry into the circumstances of the accident and are examining whether factors such as visibility, speed, or road conditions contributed to the collision.
