Rohtak: Police on Thursday night apprehended four men linked to the killing of 23-year-old Sapna, bringing a swift breakthrough to a case that has triggered widespread outrage in Haryana. The arrests followed a brief exchange of gunfire on the Ladhot–Bohar road, during which all four suspects were shot in the legs before being taken into custody.
Those arrested include Sapna’s brother, Sanju, along with Rahul from Kahni village and Ankit alias Baba and Gaurav from Rukhi village in neighbouring Sonepat district. Officers recovered four pistols, 10 live cartridges, two magazines and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the group.
The suspects were transported to PGIMS Rohtak for treatment after sustaining injuries in the encounter.
Sapna, a resident of Kahni, was killed at her in-laws’ home on Wednesday night. According to investigators, she was allegedly shot by her brother and his accomplices. Her brother-in-law, Sahil, suffered injuries while attempting to stop the attackers.
Initial inquiries suggest that Sanju had harboured resentment ever since his sister married a man from their own village more than three years ago, a union reportedly opposed by the family. Police officials said they had been tracking the suspects since the crime and intercepted them late Thursday based on intelligence inputs.
Further questioning and forensic analysis of the seized weapons are expected to strengthen the case as authorities prepare to file additional charges. Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests have not been ruled out.
