Mathura: A major road accident on the Yamuna Expressway in the early hours of Tuesday claimed four lives and left at least 25 people injured after multiple vehicles rammed into each other amid heavy fog.

The crash occurred around 4.30 am on the Agra-to-Noida stretch of the expressway, within the jurisdiction of Baldev police station. According to officials, extremely poor visibility led to a chain collision involving seven buses and three smaller vehicles. Some of the buses caught fire following the impact, worsening the situation.

Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar confirmed the casualties, stating that all injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. “Fortunately, none of the injured are in a critical condition,” he said, adding that emergency services responded promptly to the incident.

Passengers who were stranded after the crash were later transported to their destinations using government vehicles. Traffic movement on the affected stretch was disrupted for several hours, and diversions were put in place as cranes were deployed to clear the burnt and damaged vehicles from the roadway.

Images from the scene showed severely damaged buses reduced to charred frames, highlighting the intensity of the collision.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the victims. In a message shared on social media, he directed district authorities to ensure proper medical care for the injured and prayed for their swift recovery.

Police have initiated further inquiries while urging commuters to exercise caution during winter fog conditions on highways.
