Chamba (Himachal Pradesh): Torrential rain triggered flash floods in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district late Monday night, leaving a trail of destruction in the Sarol area. Massive quantities of mud, rocks and debris swept through residential localities, damaging houses and burying several vehicles, while frightened residents were forced to flee their homes in the middle of the night.
According to local reports, floodwaters carrying heavy debris entered multiple houses, causing extensive damage to property. In one of the worst-hit homes, an entire floor was reportedly engulfed by sludge and rubble. At least ten vehicles were buried under the debris as the sudden surge caught residents off guard.
The unexpected flash flood created panic across the locality, with many families spending the night outdoors or along roadsides after evacuating their homes as a precaution. Local authorities and emergency teams began assessing the damage after the water levels receded.
Residents have urged the administration to strengthen flood mitigation measures and improve drainage systems in vulnerable areas, particularly as the monsoon continues to intensify across the state.
The incident comes amid persistent rainfall in several parts of Himachal Pradesh, raising concerns over additional flash floods and landslides in the coming days. Authorities have advised people living near streams and hill slopes to remain vigilant and immediately report any signs of danger.
