Andhra Pradesh: A devastating road accident in Andhra Pradesh claimed eight lives after a passenger bus caught fire following a collision in the Markapuram area on Thursday, officials confirmed.

According to police, the bus reportedly crashed into a gravel-laden tipper, triggering a blaze that rapidly spread through the vehicle. Several passengers were unable to escape in time and were burnt alive in the inferno.

At least 18 injured passengers have been rescued and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Some are said to have sustained minor injuries, while others remain under medical care.

Nagraju stated that emergency teams rushed to the spot and began rescue operations immediately. However, the intensity of the fire has made recovery efforts challenging, with fears that more victims could still be trapped inside the charred bus.

Authorities are currently working to identify the deceased and inform their families. The process is expected to take time due to the condition of the remains.

Meanwhile, N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
