New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday apprehended a 23-year-old man, Himanshu, wanted in an armed robbery case, following an encounter in the Badarpur area. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg and is currently receiving treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.
Authorities said that around 9:20 pm on Saturday, police received a tip-off that Himanshu would be present at a park near the Badarpur flyover to plan a robbery. A Special Task Force (STF) team promptly reached the location and instructed the suspect to surrender.
However, the accused allegedly opened fire on the officers, prompting them to respond in self-defense. Reports stated that Himanshu fired two shots, while the police returned two rounds, one of which struck him in the leg, allowing the team to secure him.
During the operation, police recovered a semi-automatic pistol, two live bullets, and four empty cartridges.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Himanshu had been released from jail in late June and had prior involvement in three cases, including kidnapping, robbery, and snatching. Authorities continue to probe the incident and his possible links to other criminal activities in the area.
