Chandigarh: In a significant development for Punjab’s railway network, the Delhi–Moga Express (22485/22486) has been extended up to Firozpur Cantonment, fulfilling a long-pending demand of residents in the region. The announcement was made by Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu, who hailed the move as a milestone in improving passenger convenience and regional connectivity.
According to the revised timetable, the train—now renamed the Delhi–Firozpur Cantt. Express—will continue its usual route from New Delhi via Jakhal and Ludhiana, reaching Moga at 13:57 hrs and departing shortly after at 13:59 hrs. It will then proceed onward to Firozpur Cantt., where it will arrive at 15:00 hrs.
On the return leg, the Firozpur–Delhi Express (22486) will leave Firozpur Cantt. at 15:35 hrs, halt at Moga at 16:25 hrs, and reach New Delhi by 23:35 hrs.
Minister Ravneet Bittu expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their “visionary leadership and commitment to enhancing Punjab’s rail infrastructure.” He stated, “The inclusion of Firozpur in this route addresses a decades-old public demand and will not only make travel more convenient but also encourage trade and tourism across northwestern Punjab.”
The extension is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters, farmers, and traders who rely on railways for business and travel between Delhi and border districts.
Local residents and business associations from Firozpur, Moga, and Ludhiana have welcomed the development, describing it as a “transformative step” for improving accessibility and economic prospects in the region.
With this operational expansion, the Indian Railways aims to further integrate Punjab’s hinterland into the national transport grid—strengthening connectivity and paving the way for new opportunities in commerce and mobility.
