Mathura: The toll in the recent boat capsize incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district has climbed to 12 after another body was recovered on Sunday, officials said, as intensive search efforts continue along the Yamuna river.

According to Additional District Magistrate Amaresh Kumar, the latest body was found near Chamunda Ghat and has been sent for post-mortem examination. Authorities are still searching for missing persons, with multiple rescue teams deployed at the site.

Rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing, with eight teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and four teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) actively involved. Local police and administrative officials are also assisting in the ongoing efforts.

The tragic incident occurred on April 10 when a boat carrying pilgrims capsized in the Yamuna, leading to multiple casualties. Since then, authorities have been conducting continuous search operations using advanced equipment and coordinated strategies to locate those still unaccounted for.

Officials said that river currents and visibility challenges have made the operation difficult, but teams remain committed to completing the search at the earliest.

The administration has assured that all necessary support is being extended to the affected families, while also reviewing safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
