Kapurthala:In a significant blow to organised crime in Punjab, Kapurthala Police have arrested an active member of the Jagga Fukiwal extortion gang, seizing a cache of illegal weapons in a multi-layered operation. The development was confirmed by Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, who praised the force for its swift and coordinated action.
The arrested suspect, identified as Amandeep alias Aman, a resident of Tashpur, was reportedly involved in supplying weapons to criminal groups operating around Sultanpur Lodhi. Police officials said Amandeep played a crucial role in enabling firing incidents and extortion attempts carried out by local gangs.
During the operation, police recovered four country-made pistols from Amandeep’s possession. As the interrogation progressed, he disclosed that he had earlier provided two weapons to his associate Lovepreet alias Baba, who has since been arrested as well. A search following Lovepreet’s arrest led to the recovery of:
-
One .32 bore country-made pistol
-
One .315 bore country-made pistol
-
Two live cartridges
Further questioning of Amandeep revealed that more weapons were hidden at his residence. A subsequent search unearthed three additional country-made pistols buried on the premises, bringing the total number of recovered weapons to nine.
Police have registered a case at Police Station Sadar, Kapurthala, and investigations are underway to establish both backward and forward linkages of the arms network. Authorities aim to identify the source of the weapons, the distribution chain, and the full extent of the gang’s operations.
DGP Yadav reiterated that Punjab Police remain committed to dismantling organised crime networks and stamping out illegal arms trafficking across the state. He said the latest arrests mark another step toward curbing the spread of criminal syndicates exploiting rural and semi-urban pockets of Punjab.
