Jalandhar: Several private schools in Jalandhar were thrown into a state of alarm on Monday after receiving messages warning of a bomb attack, leading authorities to order the immediate evacuation of students and staff as a precautionary step.
Police officials said the alerts were received by school managements during the morning hours, following which law enforcement agencies were informed without delay. Campuses such as St. Joseph’s Convent School and KMV School were among those cleared as security teams moved in to assess the situation. Police personnel cordoned off the premises and conducted detailed checks to rule out any potential danger.
Parents, many of whom hurried to the schools after hearing about early dispersal, said they were informed by the school administrations that classes were being suspended due to maintenance-related reasons. They noted that no mention of the threat was made at that point, apparently to avoid panic among students and families.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar, who oversees the northern zone of the city, later confirmed that the evacuation followed the receipt of a threatening email claiming that explosives had been planted on the school premises. “As a preventive measure, all students and staff were moved to safety and the buildings were thoroughly inspected. There is no immediate cause for concern,” he said.
Police also pointed out that similar threats had surfaced in Amritsar in recent weeks, which were later found to be false alarms. Despite this, officials said each alert is being treated seriously. Investigative teams have begun efforts to trace the origin of the messages, while security across sensitive locations in the district has been stepped up.
Authorities urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the police as inquiries continue.
