Indore: Police have registered a case against actor Ajaz Khan for allegedly promoting enmity between communities through a social media video on the death of gangster Salman Lala.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotiya confirmed that Khan was booked under sections 196, 223, 353(1)(b), and 353(1)(c) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a complaint by local resident Irshad Hakim.

According to officials, Khan uploaded an Instagram story about Lala’s death, where he reportedly made objectionable remarks capable of spreading hatred. The video has since been widely shared on social media. Police have also approached Instagram’s parent company Meta to review his account and take necessary action.

Khan, known for his stint in reality show Bigg Boss 7, has not yet responded to the allegations. Police have begun their investigation.

The controversy comes in the backdrop of Lala’s death, which has already sparked suspicion. Last month, Indore police arrested four people in a drug trade case, but Lala managed to escape. His body was later discovered in a pond. While his family alleged custodial killing, police maintain he drowned. Officials said a post-mortem was conducted by a panel of doctors in Bhopal, and the process was videographed for transparency.

Lala, facing 32 criminal cases, continues to generate online sympathy, with social media accounts glorifying him and questioning the police version of events. Authorities have identified 90 accounts spreading misinformation or propaganda about his death, including fake profiles created in his name.

In one instance, a minor girl’s hacked account was used to post a reel supporting Lala, prompting further investigation. Police have assured strict action against those spreading false narratives and inciting unrest online.
