Kurnool: Four persons, including a woman and a private hospital nurse, were arrested for allegedly injecting HIV-infected blood into a woman doctor in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, police said on Sunday.
The accused have been identified as B Boya Vasundhara (34), a resident of Kurnool, Konge Jyothi (40), a nurse working at a private hospital in Adoni, and Jyothi’s two children, both in their twenties. Police said all four were taken into custody on January 24.
According to investigators, Vasundhara conspired with the others to target the victim, an assistant professor at a private medical college, who is married to Vasundhara’s former lover. Unable to accept his marriage, the accused allegedly planned to separate the couple by harming the woman.
Police said the accused procured HIV-infected blood samples from patients undergoing treatment at a government hospital, falsely claiming the samples were needed for research purposes. The samples were allegedly stored in a refrigerator before being used in the crime.
The incident took place on January 9 around 2.30 pm when the victim was returning home on her scooter after duty. Police said two persons on a motorcycle deliberately rammed into her scooter near Vinayak Ghat along the KC Canal, causing her to fall and suffer injuries.
As the victim lay injured, Vasundhara and others approached her pretending to help. While attempting to shift her into an autorickshaw, Vasundhara allegedly injected her with HIV-infected blood. The accused fled the spot after the victim raised an alarm, police said.
The victim’s husband, also a doctor, lodged a complaint at the Kurnool III Town Police Station on January 10. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 126(2), 118(1), 272 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Further investigation is underway to determine the extent of planning involved and whether any hospital protocols were violated while procuring the infected samples, police added.
