Amritsar: A high-alert investigation is underway in Amritsar after a woman was discovered dead on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in a hotel room near the Golden Temple. The deceased, identified as Monica, a resident of Guru Nanak Pura, was found in room number 301 of AK Guest House, located near the busy Darkhata Chowk. According to preliminary reports from the hotel staff, Monica had checked into the room alone, and the discovery was made earlier today, sending shockwaves through the high-security religious tourism zone.
Police teams led by SHO Baljinder Singh Aulkh of Division B arrived at the scene immediately to secure the area. While the SHO confirmed that no immediate signs of physical violence or a struggle were visible on the body, the cause of death remains a mystery. Forensic experts have collected samples from the room, and authorities are currently scanning CCTV footage from the guest house to track Monica’s movements and identify if anyone else visited the room prior to the incident.
The body has been moved to a local hospital for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to clarify whether the death was due to natural causes or foul play. SHO Aulkh stated that the police are questioning both hotel employees and the victim’s family members to reconstruct the timeline leading up to the tragedy. Given the sensitive location of the guest house near the Golden Temple, security in the vicinity has been tightened while the investigation continues.
