Hyderabad: A shocking case of domestic cruelty has emerged from the Medipally police station area, where a woman allegedly forced her four-year-old nephew to drink acid on April 9, 2026. The accused reportedly lured the child into the kitchen by promising him a chocolate if he finished what she claimed was a glass of fruit juice. The boy, who is the son of the accused’s co-sister, fell critically ill immediately after consuming the corrosive liquid and was rushed to a local hospital. Following a complaint filed by the child’s mother on Wednesday, the police have registered a case of attempted murder against the woman.

Investigations into the incident have revealed that the motive behind the heinous act was deep-seated “jealousy” within the joint family. The accused reportedly harboured a grudge because she felt her in-laws and the child’s grandparents were lavishing more attention and care on her co-sister’s son than on her own. Tensions reached a breaking point recently when the grandfather went as far as getting a tattoo of the four-year-old victim’s name on his arm. This specific display of affection allegedly “angered” the woman, prompting her to hatch a plan to kill the boy under the pretext of a treat.

The Medipally police have confirmed that the child has since been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for internal burns, though he remains under observation. A senior police official stated that the investigation is currently ongoing to determine if there were any other contributing factors or accomplices involved in the crime. The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder, and further legal proceedings are being initiated as the family deals with the fallout of the near-fatal betrayal.
