Ontario: A 45-year-old woman of Indian origin, Nancy Grewal, was fatally stabbed at her residence in LaSalle, Ontario, prompting a homicide investigation by local authorities.

According to the LaSalle Police Service, emergency responders found Grewal with multiple stab wounds inside her home. She was rushed to a nearby hospital by Essex‑Windsor Emergency Medical Services, but doctors were unable to save her and she later succumbed to her injuries.

Background and online presence

Grewal, who was of Punjabi origin, was known in certain online circles for her outspoken views on social media platforms. She often posted commentary videos and messages addressing political and social issues.

Based on details shared on her social media accounts, Grewal had completed part of her schooling in Sirsa before studying at Satluj Public School. She later mentioned attending what she described as a “national college.” Her online profile also suggested that she originally belonged to Ludhiana.

Before moving to the Windsor–LaSalle region, Grewal had reportedly lived in Calgary in the province of Alberta.

Some local media outlets described her as a Punjabi-origin YouTuber, though details about the size of her online audience and the nature of her content varied across reports.

Controversial commentary

Grewal had attracted attention online for her commentary related to diplomatic tensions between India and Canada. Her posts also included criticism of individuals and groups linked to the Khalistan movement.

Among those she publicly criticised were Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a Khalistan-linked activist. She also posted remarks about Canadian political leadership, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, particularly over Ottawa’s handling of separatist-related issues.

Police investigation underway

Authorities have confirmed that the incident is being treated as a homicide. However, investigators said there is currently no indication of a broader threat to the public, describing the case as an isolated event.

Police are appealing to residents in the neighbourhood to share any relevant information or footage that could help the investigation. Officials specifically requested dashcam recordings or doorbell-camera video from the surrounding area.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Detective Sergeant Jamie Nestor or reach out to Crime Stoppers.

Motive still unclear

As of now, police have not disclosed a possible motive behind the attack, and no details about a suspect or arrest have been made public. Investigators say the case remains active as they continue collecting evidence and interviewing potential witnesses.
