Violence Erupts Over Gurdwara Control in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh, Eight Injured

Tensions over the management of a prominent gurdwara in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district escalated into violence on Friday, leaving at least eight people injured, including a member of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) and two minors.

The incident occurred at the Mehtabgarh Sahib Gurdwara in Goluwala, where a group of around 100 individuals reportedly entered the premises early in the morning, allegedly attempting to take over control of the shrine.

A clash soon broke out between the intruders and members of the existing management group, police officials said. The confrontation left several people wounded, who were first treated at a nearby hospital before being referred to Sri Ganganagar District Hospital. Authorities confirmed that all injured individuals are currently stable.

Additional Superintendent of Police Janesh Tanwar stated that the situation is being handled with caution. “Security has been tightened in the area. Police teams and RAC personnel have been deployed to prevent further escalation,” he said.

In response to the unrest, a curfew has been imposed in parts of Goluwala as a preventive measure. Two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) have been lodged at the local police station, naming 17 individuals and several unidentified others. Three suspects have been taken into custody for questioning.

The dispute appears to stem from ongoing disagreements surrounding the gurdwara’s administration. Locals have alleged that the previous committee, led by Bibi Harmeet Kaur, maintained an unfair hold over management affairs. Some also raised concerns about transparency and accountability under her leadership, calling for the formation of a new oversight committee.

Senior district officials, including law enforcement and civil administration representatives, have reached the site to assess the situation and mediate between the groups involved.

Authorities have appealed for calm while the investigation continues.
