Kolkata: Tension flared in south Kolkata on Sunday night after a violent confrontation between two groups escalated into the use of crude bombs and gunfire, resulting in injuries to two individuals, police officials confirmed.

The incident took place in the Golpark area, which falls under the jurisdiction of Rabindra Sarobar Police Station. According to senior police officers, the clash triggered panic among local residents as explosive sounds and firing were reported in the area.

Law enforcement agencies moved swiftly to bring the situation under control. By early Monday morning, at least ten people had been taken into custody in connection with the violence. Police said search operations are ongoing to identify and apprehend others who may have been involved.

“The area is calm at present and security has been stepped up to prevent any further disturbances,” a senior officer said, adding that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the clash and the sequence of events.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and their condition is reported to be stable. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
