Mumbai: Vijaypat Singhania, the former Chairman and Managing Director of the prominent textile giant Raymond Group, passed away at the age of 87 on Sunday, March 29, 2026. The news of his demise was confirmed by his son, Gautam Singhania, through a social media post. In his tribute, Gautam described his father as a visionary leader and a dedicated philanthropist whose legacy would continue to inspire future generations. The final rites are scheduled to take place today at 3:00 PM at the Chandanwadi Crematorium in Mumbai.
A towering figure in India’s textile industry, Vijaypat Singhania played a pivotal role in transforming Raymond into a global brand. Beyond his business acumen, he was an accomplished aviator, famously setting a world record in 2005 for the highest flight in a hot air balloon, reaching an altitude of 69,852 feet. His leadership saw the company expand into diverse sectors, establishing the iconic “Complete Man” branding that remains a staple of Indian advertising history.
In his later years, Vijaypat Singhania frequently made headlines due to a highly publicised legal and personal feud with his son, Gautam, which began around 2017. The dispute centred on property rights and control over family assets, including the high-profile JK House in Mumbai. Despite these public challenges, he remained a respected figure for his contributions to Indian industry and social causes. His passing marks the end of an era for one of India’s most storied business families.
