New Delhi: A video allegedly featuring Dr Umer-un-Nabi — the man investigators suspect carried out the November 10 car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort — has surfaced online, adding a new layer to the ongoing probe into the deadly attack that claimed 13 lives and injured several others.
The clip, which Encounter News has not independently authenticated, appears to show Umer speaking calmly to the camera while discussing what he terms a “martyrdom operation.” The recording is believed to have been made shortly before he vanished, days after Jammu and Kashmir Police dismantled an interstate terror module linked to him and his associates.
Umer, a medical professional from Pulwama, had been employed at a private hospital operated by Al-Falah University in Dhauj, Faridabad. He disappeared soon after the arrest of his colleague, Dr Muzamil Ahmad Ganai. Ganai’s custody resulted in the recovery of more than 2,900 kilograms of explosives-related material from a Faridabad property — one of the largest such seizures in recent years.
According to investigators, Umer fled immediately after Ganai’s arrest but continued to operate covertly. They believe he obtained explosive components while underground and assembled the device used in the November 10 blast that rocked the Red Fort area.
In the video now in circulation, the speaker argues that what is widely known as suicide bombing is “one of the most misunderstood concepts,” insisting instead that it should be viewed as a “martyrdom operation.” He describes such missions as acts undertaken by individuals who accept that they “are going to die at a particular place and time,” and he references religious and ideological debates surrounding the tactic.
Agencies examining the Red Fort explosion and the broader “white-collar” radicalisation network linked to the case have said Umer was deeply influenced by extremist ideas. Officials claim he frequently spoke about suicide attacks among peers and was considered one of the more doctrinally driven members of the module.
The investigation into the blast — including the provenance of the video and how Umer managed to obtain explosives while on the run — is ongoing. Authorities are continuing efforts to trace his movements in the days leading up to the attack and identify potential collaborators still at large.
