Two Militants Gunned Down in Anti-Infiltration Operation in Gurez Sector, Bandipora

Srinagar: Security forces neutralized two unidentified militants in an anti-infiltration operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gurez sector of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, the Indian Army confirmed on Thursday.

The operation took place near the Naushehra Nard area, where troops acted swiftly after receiving specific intelligence inputs about a possible infiltration attempt. The information, shared by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, prompted a joint operation involving the Indian Army and local police units.

According to a statement posted by the Army’s Chinar Corps on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), alert personnel detected suspicious movement near the LoC and challenged the infiltrators. In response, the militants opened fire indiscriminately, prompting security forces to retaliate. The brief but intense exchange of gunfire resulted in the elimination of two infiltrators.

“Based on intelligence provided by JKP regarding a likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and @JmuKmrPolice in the Gurez Sector. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists,” the Chinar Corps said in the post.

The identity and affiliation of the deceased militants are yet to be confirmed, and search operations are ongoing in the area to rule out the presence of any additional infiltrators.

Security officials have intensified surveillance along infiltration-prone stretches of the LoC, particularly in light of recent attempts to breach the border amid the ongoing monsoon season, which is often exploited for movement due to poor visibility and terrain challenges.

The operation underscores continued efforts by security forces to thwart cross-border infiltration and maintain stability in sensitive border areas. Further details are expected as the search operation continues.
