Bhopal: The investigation into the death of actor and model Twisha Sharma has taken a fresh legal turn after her husband, Samarth Singh, approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking bail even as police continue efforts to trace him.
Samarth Singh, who remains absconding in connection with the case, filed a bail plea before the Jabalpur bench of the High Court after a lower court earlier denied him anticipatory bail. However, the same court granted relief to his mother, Giribala Singh, who has also been named in the case.
Twisha Sharma, 33, was found dead at her matrimonial residence in the Katara Hills locality of Bhopal on May 12. According to investigators, she was discovered hanging inside the house.
Following her death, Sharma’s family accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to harassment linked to dowry demands and alleged that the circumstances drove her to take the extreme step. On the other hand, the Singh family has reportedly claimed that Sharma was struggling with drug addiction.
Based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family, police registered a case under Sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Authorities have intensified efforts to locate Samarth Singh, announcing a reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to his arrest. Police have also moved court seeking cancellation of his passport to prevent any possibility of him leaving the country during the investigation.
The case has drawn significant public attention in Madhya Pradesh, with growing calls for a detailed and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sharma’s death. Police officials have stated that further action will depend on the evidence gathered during the ongoing probe.
