Chennai, January 18, 2026: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor-turned-politician Vijay departed for New Delhi on Sunday to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Karur stampede case.

According to airport officials, Vijay left Chennai for the national capital on a chartered aircraft at around 4:15 pm. He has been summoned by the CBI to appear before investigators on January 19 as part of the ongoing probe.

Earlier, Vijay was questioned at the CBI headquarters on January 12 for over six hours. He was initially asked to appear again the following day; however, he sought a deferment citing prior commitments related to the Pongal harvest festival.

The Karur stampede case remains under investigation, and the CBI continues to record statements and examine evidence linked to the incident.
