Mahabubnagar: A family in Telangana’s Mahabubnagar district is in deep distress following news that their son, Mohammed Nizamuddin, a 30-year-old software engineer working in the United States, was shot and killed by police in California earlier this month.
According to the victim’s father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, the family was informed about the tragic incident by a friend of Nizamuddin residing in the U.S. The shooting reportedly occurred on September 3 in Santa Clara, but the exact circumstances leading to the fatal police action remain unclear.
Altercation with Roommate Preceded Shooting
Preliminary information shared with the family suggests that a minor disagreement or scuffle between Nizamuddin and his roommate may have escalated, ultimately resulting in the intervention of local law enforcement. However, the precise details of the sequence of events remain sketchy, and there has been no official confirmation from U.S. authorities regarding the nature of the incident or why police opened fire.
Family Appeals for Government Intervention
Devastated by the news, Hasnuddin has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, urging the government to facilitate the repatriation of Nizamuddin’s body from Santa Clara to Mahabubnagar. In his letter, Hasnuddin said, “I was informed that my son was shot by the Santa Clara Police and that his mortal remains are now in a hospital there. I do not know why he was shot or what led to it.”
He requested the intervention of the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the Consulate General in San Francisco to expedite the necessary procedures to bring his son’s body home for final rites.
Public Support and Political Outreach
Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson for the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), has taken up the issue publicly and appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs to extend all possible support to the grieving family. Khan also circulated Hasnuddin’s letter to the media to draw attention to the case and speed up diplomatic efforts.
Promising Career Cut Short
Nizamuddin had been living and working in the U.S. for the past few years after completing his Master’s degree in Science from an American university. His career in the tech industry was reportedly stable, and the news of his sudden and tragic death has sent shockwaves through his community in Mahabubnagar.
