New Delhi: In a significant move to enhance the travel experience for millions of rail passengers, Swiggy announced on Thursday that it has expanded its ‘Food on Train’ service to 152 stations across India. This expansion, achieved in collaboration with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), marks a substantial 117 per cent growth in its network over the past 12 months, increasing from 70 stations in February 2025. The rapid scaling is a direct response to the surging nationwide demand for high-quality and diverse culinary options during rail journeys.

The quick commerce and delivery giant is strategically doubling down on transit hubs that range from major metropolitan junctions to crucial regional stops. Key regional locations included in this latest expansion include Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh, Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, and Kharagpur in West Bengal. By targeting these diverse hubs, Swiggy aims to ensure that passengers on long-distance routes have access to a variety of cuisines that were previously unavailable through traditional pantry services.

Timed perfectly for the upcoming festive season, Swiggy also announced a special Holi food menu available for travellers from February 28 to March 8. Additionally, the company has broadened its ‘Train Friendly Dishes’ category—a specialized menu engineered for high-speed convenience and spill-proof packaging, ensuring that meals remain fresh and intact during the fast-paced environment of a railway platform delivery.

Deepak Maloo, Vice President for food strategy, customer experience, and new initiatives at Swiggy, highlighted that this expansion is designed to meet the high volume of travellers expected during the Holi holiday rush. He emphasized that focusing on regional stops alongside major junctions is part of a broader commitment to provide consistency and quality to every corner of the Indian rail network. This partnership continues to redefine the logistics of on-the-go dining, merging digital convenience with India’s massive railway infrastructure.
