Supreme Court Collegium Proposes Key Leadership Appointments for Four High Courts

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, has recommended the elevation and appointment of four senior judges as Chief Justices across various High Courts during its meeting on August 6, 2026. The proposals aim to address existing vacancies and establish permanent leadership across high-level judicial bodies.

Under the Collegium’s recommendations, Delhi High Court Judge V. Kameswar Rao has been proposed as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. Meanwhile, Justice Ravindra V. Ghuge, currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, has been recommended to assume charge as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.

To fill the top judicial post at the Bombay High Court, the Collegium has recommended Allahabad High Court Judge Mahesh Chandra Tripathi. Additionally, Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, presently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, has been recommended for appointment as its permanent Chief Justice. In addition to the chief judicial appointments, the Collegium proposed the transfer of Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak to the Gujarat High Court and Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra to the Chhattisgarh High Court. The recommendations have been forwarded to the Union Government for formal consideration and executive approval.
