New Delhi: A minor ground collision occurred between a SpiceJet aircraft and a stationary Akasa Airplane at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday, April 16, 2026. The incident took place at approximately 2:00 PM in the parking area, but authorities confirmed that all passengers and crew members on both aircraft are safe. No injuries were reported, though both planes sustained visible structural damage during the encounter.

According to FlightRadar24 data and airline statements, the collision happened when a SpiceJet Boeing 737-700, which had just arrived from Leh, was taxiing toward its assigned gate. Simultaneously, Akasa Air flight QP 1406 was stationary and preparing for pushback for its scheduled departure to Hyderabad. The winglet of the taxiing SpiceJet aircraft clipped the horizontal stabilizer of the Akasa Air plane. The impact resulted in damage to SpiceJet’s right winglet and the breaking of Akasa Air’s left-hand horizontal stabilizer.

SpiceJet has grounded the involved aircraft in Delhi for comprehensive technical inspections and repairs. An Akasa Air spokesperson confirmed that their flight had to return to the bay following the “ground contact incident.” The airline’s ground teams have since been working to make alternative travel arrangements for the stranded Hyderabad-bound passengers. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been notified, and a formal inquiry is underway to determine the exact cause of the taxiing error.
