New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed deep anguish over repeated disruptions in Parliament on Tuesday, appealing to both the Government and the Opposition to find common ground to facilitate constructive debates on key legislative bills. Addressing the House amid persistent slogans and protests, Birla confirmed that the Government has agreed to the Opposition’s demand for Union Home Minister Amit Shah to respond regarding police action during student protests on July 20. Emphasizing that Question Hour remains vital for holding the executive accountable, the Speaker urged Opposition members to refrain from displaying placards and return to their seats.
Despite the Speaker’s appeal, Opposition members continued shouting slogans and demanding discussions on additional issues, including alleged financial irregularities involving the Ram Temple trust in Ayodhya. The continued impasse forced an adjournment of the proceedings until 2 PM. Meanwhile, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentarians staged a protest near the main entrance of Parliament against the Jharkhand government’s recent police action on job aspirants, criticizing Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi for alleged double standards regarding student protests across different states.
