Beed (Maharashtra): A six-year-old boy from Beed city lost vision in his left eye after a firecracker exploded in his hand during Diwali celebrations, a doctor treating him confirmed on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday evening in Nagoba Galli, where the boy was lighting firecrackers outside his home. According to doctors, the firecracker initially failed to ignite, prompting the child to attempt lighting it again. The second attempt caused it to explode, injuring his face and severely damaging his eye.

He was first taken to Beed Civil Hospital and later shifted to a private medical facility for advanced treatment. “The child’s cornea was completely damaged due to the blast, and he has permanently lost vision in one eye,” a doctor from the private hospital said.

The doctor also urged parents to remain extra cautious during festive celebrations, warning that children should not handle firecrackers unsupervised.

Authorities have yet to issue an official advisory, but medical experts continue to stress the importance of safety measures during Diwali to prevent such tragedies.
