Shilpa Shetty Denies Role in Rs 60 Crore Fraud Case, Says She Didn’t Handle Company Affairs

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty told the Mumbai Police that she was not involved in managing the operations of Best Deal TV Private Limited, the company she co-founded with her husband, businessman Raj Kundra. Her statement came during a four-hour questioning session conducted by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) at her residence on October 4, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

According to the EOW, Shetty clarified that she was only a part of the company in a professional capacity and had no role in its day-to-day management. “Shetty said she did not handle the affairs of the company and was paid only celebrity fees for appearing on the platform,” an official stated.

Shetty and Kundra were both directors of Best Deal TV Private Limited, a home shopping and online retail venture that has since been liquidated. The actor submitted documents to the police in support of her claims, which are currently being verified by investigators.

The case stems from a complaint lodged by businessman Deepak Kothari, who accused the couple of cheating him of nearly ₹60 crore in a loan-cum-investment deal. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Shetty and Kundra at Juhu Police Station on August 14.

Raj Kundra has already recorded his statement in the matter. The EOW earlier issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against both Shetty and Kundra to prevent them from leaving the country during the ongoing investigation.
