Rohtas: A potentially serious accident was narrowly avoided on Friday when a newly constructed ropeway in Bihar’s Rohtas district collapsed during a trial run, officials confirmed. Thankfully, no casualties were reported.

The ropeway, designed to connect Rohtas block with Rohtasgarh Fort and Rohiteshwar Dham, gave way along with one of its supporting towers during the testing phase. Four trolleys that were being used for the trial were damaged, but the workers present managed to evacuate safely.

The incident has sparked concerns over the construction quality and safety protocols of the project. Khursheed Karim, senior engineer at Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited, told reporters, “The trial and testing were in progress when a wire got stuck while increasing the load, causing damage. A significant portion of the work is still underway and is being carried out gradually.”

Authorities have announced that a technical team from Kolkata will visit the site to conduct a thorough investigation. Karim added that the ropeway will not be opened for public use until all safety tests are successfully completed and officials are fully satisfied with the results.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of rigorous safety checks during trial runs of large infrastructure projects, especially those intended for public use.
