Religious Leader Criticises Shah Rukh Khan Over KKR’s Signing of Bangladeshi Player, Calls Him ‘Traitor’

Mumbai: Senior Hindu spiritual leader Jagadguru Rambhadracharya has sharply criticised actor and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner Shah Rukh Khan over the franchise’s decision to sign a Bangladeshi cricketer for the upcoming Indian Premier League season.

Reacting to KKR’s inclusion of Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for IPL 2026, Rambhadracharya described the move as “deeply regrettable,” linking his objection to reports of violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. Speaking to PTI Videos in Nagpur on Thursday, the seer alleged that Shah Rukh Khan’s stance on such matters reflected what he termed an “anti-national mindset.”

The religious leader condemned the reported attacks on Hindus in the neighbouring country and urged the Indian government to adopt a firm and uncompromising position. He said New Delhi should not ignore incidents targeting minorities and must raise the issue strongly at diplomatic and political levels.

Rambhadracharya further remarked that Bangladesh’s leadership and citizens should be reminded of the historical role played by Hindus during the country’s formation, asserting that their contributions should not be forgotten.

Neither Shah Rukh Khan nor the Kolkata Knight Riders management has responded publicly to the remarks. The IPL franchise’s signing of Mustafizur Rahman is part of routine team preparations ahead of the next season, and the player has previously featured in the league for other teams.

The comments have added to an ongoing debate where sporting decisions intersect with political and religious sensitivities, particularly amid strained sentiments over developments in the region.
