Rabri Devi Refuses to Vacate Patna Bungalow After Bihar Government Notice

Patna: RJD leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi has refused to vacate the government residence at 10 Circular Road, Patna, despite receiving a notice from the Bihar government directing her to hand over the premises.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Rabri Devi asserted that she would continue to occupy the bungalow and would not comply with the government’s order.

“They can call the force to vacate the place, but I will not vacate the place,” she said.

The standoff comes a day after the Bihar government issued a formal notice asking the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader to vacate the residence, which has now been allotted to Nand Kishore Ram, Bihar’s Minister for Animal and Fisheries Resources.

According to the official communication, Rabri Devi had already been allotted an alternative government accommodation in her capacity as the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council. However, authorities said she has continued to occupy the bungalow at 10 Circular Road.

The notice stated that Quarter No. 39, Hardinge Road, Patna, was earmarked for the Leader of Opposition through a departmental order issued in November 2025 and was allotted to Rabri Devi. It further noted that 10 Circular Road has subsequently been allocated to Minister Nand Kishore Ram through a separate government notification.

The government has requested Rabri Devi to immediately vacate the Circular Road residence and take possession of the accommodation designated for her current official position.

The bungalow at 10 Circular Road has long been associated with the family of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and holds considerable political significance. Rabri Devi served as Bihar’s Chief Minister while residing at the property, and it has remained a prominent political address for the RJD for decades.

The issue is likely to trigger a political confrontation between the ruling NDA government in Bihar and the opposition RJD, with Rabri Devi’s refusal setting the stage for a potential legal and administrative battle over possession of the residence.
