Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has confirmed that the long-awaited inventory of the Ratna Bhandar, the sacred treasury of the Puri Jagannath Temple, will be finished by April 2026. The assessment will include cataloguing ornaments, jewels and other valuables stored in the shrine’s inner and outer chambers.

A high-level committee has already begun outlining procedures for opening the treasury, which traditionally remains sealed except on rare occasions. Officials said the inventory will be carried out with strict security, transparency and adherence to temple customs.

The administration plans to use advanced documentation tools to digitally record each item. The Supreme Court had earlier directed the state government and SJTA to create an accurate record of the Ratna Bhandar’s contents, prompting this systematic audit.

The SJTA stated that the exercise would ensure preservation of heritage assets and strengthen accountability. The process is expected to conclude before the annual Akshaya Tritiya ritual in 2026.
