New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a two-day visit to Malaysia beginning Saturday to strengthen bilateral cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, energy and maritime security. The visit marks Modi’s third trip to Malaysia and his first since India and Malaysia elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024.

During the February 7–8 visit, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, the Ministry of External Affairs said. The discussions are expected to cover the full spectrum of India–Malaysia relations, with a focus on expanding economic engagement and enhancing strategic cooperation.

Modi will also interact with members of the Indian diaspora and meet representatives from industry and business. The 10th India–Malaysia CEO Forum is scheduled to be held alongside the Prime Minister’s visit, underscoring the emphasis on strengthening commercial and investment ties between the two countries.

India and Malaysia share long-standing historical, civilisational and cultural links, the MEA said, noting that Malaysia is home to nearly 2.9 million people of Indian origin, making it the third-largest Indian diaspora in the world. These people-to-people connections continue to play a vital role in deepening bilateral relations.

According to the MEA, the visit will provide an opportunity for both leaders to review cooperation across sectors including defence, security and maritime cooperation, digital and financial technologies, energy, healthcare, education, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. The discussions are also expected to chart a roadmap for future engagement aimed at delivering mutual benefits and long-term strategic stability.
