Chennai: A moment of alarm unfolded at Chennai International Airport on Sunday morning when a passenger opened an emergency exit door while the aircraft was taxiing after landing.

The incident involved an Air Arabia flight that had arrived from Sharjah with over 200 passengers on board. As the plane was moving along the taxiway toward the terminal, a 34-year-old man reportedly pulled open one of the emergency exits, prompting immediate action from the flight crew.

The pilot halted the aircraft and informed airport authorities, triggering a swift security response. Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force, including armed units and bomb disposal teams, reached the spot and secured the aircraft.

Officials boarded the plane and took the passenger into custody without further incident. A formal complaint was filed by the airline, and the individual is currently being questioned by authorities.

Preliminary inquiries are also examining the passenger’s mental state, while officials continue to investigate how the breach occurred despite standard safety protocols.
