New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled to take place between July 20 and August 13, 2026, setting the stage for significant legislative debates and policy decisions. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju announced on Saturday that President Droupadi Murmu has formally approved the summoning of both Houses of Parliament for the upcoming session on the recommendation of the central government. Rijiju emphasized that the session will offer an essential platform for meaningful legislative scrutiny, consensus-building, and definitive actions on pressing matters of national importance.

The legislative agenda for the upcoming session is highlighted by the government’s push to pilot two major constitutional amendments. Chief among them is the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, which introduces a strict governance clause mandating the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Union or State ministers from office if they remain in judicial custody or detention for thirty consecutive days under serious criminal allegations. A Joint Parliamentary Committee reviewing this bill is expected to submit its final report on July 17, with provisions included to protect the law from political misuse. Additionally, the government aims to re-introduce the revised Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, which establishes a definitive framework to link the restructuring of parliamentary boundaries through a new delimitation exercise with the statutory implementation of a 33 per cent gender quota for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies.
