Mumbai: Music composer and filmmaker Palash Mucchal has sent a legal notice to Marathi actor-producer Vidnyan Mane, seeking ₹10 crore in damages for alleged defamation following accusations of cheating levelled against him.

Earlier this week, Mane, a 34-year-old resident of Maharashtra’s Sangli district, approached the local police alleging that Mucchal had cheated him of ₹40 lakh in connection with a film investment.

Dismissing the allegations, Mucchal’s lawyer Shreyansh Mithare said no money was ever received by the composer-filmmaker. He termed the accusations baseless and claimed they were made with the intent to tarnish Mucchal’s reputation. Mithare confirmed that a legal notice demanding ₹10 crore as compensation for defamation has been issued to Mane.

Mucchal also addressed the matter on social media, stating that he had initiated legal action against Mane for what he described as false, outrageous and highly defamatory accusations made with the deliberate aim of maligning his personal and professional image.

According to Mane’s complaint submitted to the Sangli Superintendent of Police, he met Mucchal in Sangli on December 5, 2023. The complainant claimed that after expressing interest in film production, Mucchal invited him to invest as a producer in an upcoming project titled Nazaria.

Mane alleged that Mucchal promised him a profit of ₹12 lakh on an investment of ₹25 lakh once the film was released on OTT platforms and also offered him an acting role in the project. The two reportedly met on multiple occasions thereafter, following which Mane claimed to have paid a total of ₹40 lakh to Mucchal by March 2025.

The complainant further stated that the project was not completed and that his requests for a refund went unanswered, prompting him to approach the police seeking registration of an FIR against Mucchal.

Police officials said the matter is under consideration and further verification is underway.
