Poonch: A Pakistani national was apprehended by security forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district after he was spotted moving under suspicious circumstances during routine surveillance, officials said.
The detained individual has been identified as Mohd Sajad, son of Rafiq, a resident of Polas in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). According to the police, alert troops noticed his movement close to the LoC and swiftly intercepted him before taking him into custody.
Officials said the man is currently being questioned by security agencies to determine how he reached the Indian side of the border and to establish the purpose of his presence near the highly sensitive frontier. Investigators are also trying to verify his identity and examine whether he has any links to cross-border networks.
The arrest comes amid heightened vigilance along the LoC, where security forces have intensified surveillance to prevent infiltration attempts and other cross-border activities. Troops have been maintaining strict monitoring through regular patrols and observation posts in vulnerable sectors.
Police said the investigation is at an early stage, and authorities are exploring all possible angles before drawing any conclusions. Intelligence agencies have also joined the probe to ascertain whether the incident was an isolated case or part of a larger plan.
Poonch Police confirmed that further questioning of the detainee is underway and that additional details will be shared once the investigation progresses. Security measures in the area remain in place as forces continue to monitor the border for any unusual movement.
