Operation Akhal, Kulgam Encounter Latest News: The security forces continue their joint anti-terror operation — Operation Akhal — in the Akhal Devsar area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district for the fourth consecutive day, wherein one terrorist has been neutralised so far as intermittent gunfire continues.
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, in association with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, and Special Operations Group (SOG), has been conducting the high-intensity operation since last week.
In a post on X, Chinar Corps said, “OP AKHAL, Kulgam: Intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night. Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact. One terrorist has been neutralised so far. Operation continues.”
Anti-Terror Successes in Jammu and Kashmir
Operation Akhal comes just days after the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps successfully conducted Operation Shivashakti in the Poonch sector on July 30, eliminating two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC).
In its statement, the White Knight Corps stated, “Swift action and accurate firepower thwarted the nefarious designs. Three weapons have been recovered. Synergistic and synchronised intelligence inputs from own units and J&K Police led to this success.”
Additionally, during a recent address in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Suleman, the mastermind of the Pahalgam terror attack, was among three terrorists killed in Operation Mahadev in Srinagar’s Harwan area near Dachigam National Park. The encounter also neutralised two other A-category terrorists, Afghan and Jibran.
“All three terrorists responsible for the killings in Baisaran Valley have been eliminated,” Amit Shah said while praising the coordinated efforts of the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police.
Operation Akhal: One of the Biggest Operations in 2025
As per sources, Operation Akhal is being considered as one of the biggest counter-terror operations of the year, involving elite forces, high-tech surveillance, and round-the-clock monitoring by senior police and army officials.
The operation is still ongoing, and additional reinforcements have been deployed to ensure the complete neutralisation of any remaining militants in the area.
