New Delhi— OpenAI on Tuesday announced that it will offer ‘ChatGPT Go’ free for one year to users in India who sign up during a limited-time promotional period beginning November 4. The initiative marks the company’s latest effort to expand access to its advanced AI tools in one of its fastest-growing markets.

The company said the offer coincides with OpenAI’s first-ever DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, set for November 4, underscoring India’s central role in its global growth strategy.

“To celebrate OpenAI’s DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru on November 4, OpenAI is making ChatGPT Go available free for one full year to all users in India who sign up during this limited-time promotional period,” the company said in a statement.

Launched in August 2025, ChatGPT Go was designed based on user feedback seeking more affordable access to OpenAI’s advanced features, including higher message limits, image generation, and file uploads. The India launch saw an overwhelming response, with paid ChatGPT subscriptions doubling within the first month.

Building on this momentum, OpenAI has since expanded ChatGPT Go to nearly 90 countries.

Millions of Indians now use ChatGPT daily—ranging from developers and students to professionals—to boost productivity, creativity, and innovation through AI.

OpenAI described the promotion as part of its “India-first” commitment and said it supports the IndiaAI Mission, reflecting the country’s growing importance in global AI development as it prepares to host the AI Impact Summit next year.

Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers in India will also be eligible for the free 12-month promotion.

Nick Turley, OpenAI’s Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, expressed enthusiasm about India’s adoption of the technology.

“Since launching ChatGPT Go in India a few months ago, the adoption and creativity we’ve seen from users has been inspiring,” Turley said. “Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across India access and benefit from advanced AI.”
